About And Wander

Keita Ikeuchi and Mihoko Mori started And Wander in Tokyo in 2011. Both had been designers at Issey Miyake, both walked in the mountains, and neither could find clothing that did the job without looking like equipment. The name is the whole idea in two words — wandering rather than summiting, walking for its own sake. What came out of it is a label that buys mountain fabrics and then draws them with a fashion designer's eye for proportion, which is why an And Wander shell reads as clothing rather than kit and why the brand has ended up in menswear shops as often as outdoor ones.

And Wander jackets, fleeces and shells

Outerwear is the core and where the fabric choices show. The 3L UL and 2.5L Hiker rain jackets are the light waterproof end, built to pack down and be carried in case rather than worn all day. The High Loft fleece jackets and the Boa pieces are the warmth layer, in deep-pile fleece that traps air rather than blocking wind. Down vests and the rain-proof down jacket cover cold and wet at once. The C/PE twill field jacket and the Cordura cotton rip shirt jacket sit at the other end — outdoor construction in cottons and blends, made to be worn in a city without announcing anything. If you buy one thing, the choice is really between something that keeps rain off and something that keeps warmth in; the range does not pretend a single piece does both well.

And Wander shirts, t-shirts, trousers and accessories

Beyond outerwear the range is quieter and more wearable. Dry Jersey raglan long-sleeve t-shirts and the logo tees are the everyday layer, in synthetics that move moisture rather than cotton that holds it. High count cloth wide pants and polyester climbing pants cover legs, cut fuller than most outdoor trousers. Multi-pocket shirts and the Cordura typewriter over shirt work as light layers. Then the smaller things that tend to sell the brand to people who were not looking for it — 60/40 cloth hats, corduroy caps, shaggy knit stoles, wool socks, fleece gloves and neck warmers, and the Miir bottle and pint cup.

And Wander FAQs

A Japanese outdoor label founded in Tokyo in 2011 by Keita Ikeuchi and Mihoko Mori, both formerly designers at Issey Miyake. They started it because they could not find outdoor clothing they wanted to buy themselves. The name refers to wandering on foot rather than climbing for summits, and the clothes are built around that — properly made for the hills, but not out of place off them.
Yards Store carries And Wander online and in both shops: 13 Old Bank Street in Manchester and 86 Pinstone Street in Sheffield. Ranges differ between the two, so ring ahead if you are after a specific piece or size. Everything on this page ships across the UK.
Yes, though it depends which piece. The rain shells, fleeces and climbing pants are built with performance fabrics and are meant to be used. Some of the range is designed for looking the part rather than for a long day on a hill. The product pages list the fabrics, which is the quickest way to tell them apart.
