Kappy Two Tuck Wide trousers

The trousers are why most people find Kappy. The Two Tuck Wide is the signature — two pleats at the front, a high waist, and a leg that stays full all the way to a wide hem rather than tapering. Worn properly they sit on the waist rather than the hips, which is what gives the shape its length. They come in cotton twill, Kation, denim and a pigment-dyed version that fades unevenly with wear. Alongside them the Heavy Cotton Fatigue and One Tuck Fatigue Corduroy are the sturdier, more workwear-cut options, and the Pintuck Wide Chino is the tidiest of the lot. In summer the Fatigue CN half pants are the same idea cut short.

Kappy shirts, tees and knitwear

Half shirts — Kappy's term for short sleeve — are the bulk of the shirting, in cotton snap, pigment henley, pocket utility and melange stripe. The full-length shirts run to vintage check, country check, corduroy and a two-pocket denim. Tees are mostly pigment-dyed or printed, including the Kappy Morning series done with the illustrator Toru Fukuda, and the Sunny Wink, Sunny Mates and Palm Coast graphics. Knitwear is small but distinct: the Ringer Round wool knit, and the Yeti Fluff and Kappy Bear sweatshirts in a brushed pile that is warmer than it looks.

Kappy jackets and caps

Outerwear sits at the lighter end and leans on texture rather than weatherproofing. The Corduroy Mountain jacket and the Reversible Utility Round jacket are the substantial pieces; the Padding Shirt Jacket is a shirt-cut layer with insulation, which is the useful thing for autumn. Kappy's signature trouser. Two pleats at the front — the two tucks — a high waist, and a full leg that stays wide down to the hem rather than tapering. They are cut to sit at the natural waist rather than on the hips, which is what gives the shape its line. Available in cotton twill, Kation, denim and pigment-dyed versions.
Short sleeve. It is a direct translation used across Korean and Japanese menswear, where half sleeve means short sleeve rather than anything cropped. A Kappy half shirt is a normal-length short-sleeved shirt.
The colour is applied to the finished garment rather than the yarn, so it sits on the surface of the fabric and wears off unevenly at the seams, cuffs and pockets. It is why a pigment-dyed tee or trouser looks faded from the first wash and keeps changing. It is intended rather than a fault.
