About Elliker bags

Elliker started in 2015 in East Keswick, a village north of Leeds where the woodland gives way to open fields, and took its name from Elliker Fields, a local wildlife site. The bags are built from recycled polyester and made for the weather this side of the country actually gets — which is to say showers rather than expeditions. It is a short brand history and a fairly honest one: the point is bags you can commute in on Monday and take up a dale on Saturday without owning two of everything.

Elliker backpacks: Buckden roll top and Cautley flap over

Two shapes, and the difference is how you get into them. The Buckden is a roll top — the opening folds down and clips, which seals against rain and lets the bag grow or shrink depending on what you have put in it. The Cautley is a flap over, quicker to open and close, and it keeps a consistent shape whether it is full or nearly empty. Roll tops suit people who carry wildly different amounts day to day; flap overs suit people who carry roughly the same thing every day.

Elliker sling bags, totes and bike bags

The smaller pieces are where the range gets more specific. The Semer sling is a one-litre bag worn across the body, for the days when a backpack is more than you need — phone, keys, wallet, nothing more. The Lammer tote at 18 litres is the opposite end, an open-topped bag with drawcord sides that pulls in when it is not full. The Keasden bike bottle bag is the most single-minded thing here: a pouch sized for a water bottle that straps to a frame or a bar.

Elliker FAQs

East Keswick in West Yorkshire, just north of Leeds. The name comes from Elliker Fields, a wildlife site near where the brand started in 2015, and the local landscape is what the range is designed around.
Water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. The recycled polyester and coated fabric shed rain and handle a normal British downpour, but the bags are not sealed units and should not be submerged. The roll top closure on the Buckden gives the best protection in the range because it folds over on itself.
A roll top folds the opening down and clips it shut, which keeps water out and lets the capacity change with how much you are carrying. A flap over uses a fixed lid, which is faster to open and holds a more consistent shape. The Buckden is the roll top here; the Cautley is the flap over.
By hand, with lukewarm water, a soft cloth and mild soap. Keep them out of the washing machine and away from harsh detergents, both of which damage the water-resistant coating on the fabric.
