Adidas has been making outdoor footwear far longer than most people assume. Adi Dassler built a light hiking boot for his wife Käthe in 1934, and in 1978 the company produced a light trekking shoe for Reinhold Messner's first ascent of Everest without supplementary oxygen. Terrex is the modern continuation of that line, covering hiking, trail running and the clothing that goes with them.

The range leans on a few consistent pieces of engineering. Gore-Tex membranes provide waterproofing in footwear and outerwear, with adidas RAIN.RDY and Climaproof covering lighter weather protection, COLD.RDY adding warmth in winter boots, and PrimaLoft insulation used through the jackets. Continental rubber outsoles handle grip on wet rock and loose ground.

The clothing is organised around named ranges, each built for a different job. Xperior is the insulation line, covering PrimaLoft Varilite and loose-fill hooded jackets for cold days, waterproof 2-layer shells and lighter windweave pieces for moving fast. Xploric focuses on wind and rain protection, with Climaproof anoraks, wind jackets and a high-pile fleece for layering underneath. Multi sits alongside both as the everyday option, with softshells, insulated jackets and 2.5-layer rain shells. The Mountain range covers softshells and a down hooded jacket for colder conditions. Alongside the outerwear, Terrex T-shirts run from plain logo tees to graphic mountain prints and AEROREADY versions for warmer weather.

On the footwear side, the range splits between trail running and hiking. Agravic is the trail-running family, from the lightweight Speed and Speed Ultra through to Gore-Tex versions for wet ground, while Skychaser, Trailmaker, Swift R3 and Free Hiker cover walking shoes and mid-height boots. You can browse the full adidas Terrex footwear range separately if you are shopping for shoes.

Bags and headwear complete the selection, with Multi and RAIN.RDY expedition duffels in 50L and 70L and merino beanies for winter.

Adidas Terrex FAQs

Terrex is the outdoor line within adidas, covering hiking, trail running and climbing. It includes footwear, clothing and accessories, and uses partnerships with Gore-Tex and Continental rubber alongside adidas cushioning technology developed for running shoes.
Regular adidas covers running, football and lifestyle products designed largely for roads, tracks and everyday wear. Terrex is built for off-road use, with grippier outsoles, weather protection and more durable construction. The two share underlying cushioning technology but are made for different ground.
Many Terrex products are, though not all. Look for Gore-Tex in the product name or description, which indicates a waterproof and breathable membrane. Lighter apparel may use adidas RAIN.RDY instead, which handles showers rather than sustained rain.
We carry Terrex footwear and clothing. Footwear covers Agravic trail-running shoes alongside Skychaser, Trailmaker, Swift R3 and Free Hiker hiking shoes and boots. Clothing is focused on outerwear, including insulated jackets, softshells, wind anoraks, waterproof shells, fleece and T-shirts, plus duffel bags and beanies.
Skychaser and Trailmaker are the hiking families, both available in Gore-Tex and in mid-height versions for ankle support. Free Hiker is the alternative if you want a hiking shoe with a more relaxed, trainer-style shape. The Agravic range is built for trail running, so it is lighter and less supportive underfoot for heavy loads.
