What YETI Rambler drinkware actually does

Double-walled stainless steel with a vacuum between the walls, which is the same principle as a thermos flask and the reason a Rambler is heavy for its size. There is almost no way for heat to cross a vacuum, so coffee stays hot for hours and ice survives a working day rather than an hour. The trade-offs are honest ones: it weighs more than plastic, it costs several times as much, and the steel makes a noise in a bag. What you get is a cup that does not sweat on a desk, does not scald a hand, and does not put a plastic taste into whatever is in it.

Choosing between the tumbler, the bottle and the straw mug

The tumbler is the open-topped cup with a sliding lid — the one for a desk or a car, easy to drink from and easy to wash, and it will spill if it goes over. The Bottle Chug is the sealed option with a narrow spout, made to be thrown in a bag and drunk from while moving. Straw mugs sit between the two: a handle, a lid and a straw, sized from 25 to 42 ounces, and they have become the ones most people reach for because you can drink without tipping anything. Mugs and lowballs are the short, wide shapes for coffee at a desk or a drink by a fire. Not everything here is insulated steel, and buying the wrong one is an easy mistake. The Yonder bottles are hard plastic — lighter, cheaper, and with no insulation at all, made for carrying water rather than keeping it cold. Silo jugs handle volume for a day on site or a long drive. Shaker bottles are the gym end of the range and also uninsulated. If you want something to hold temperature, it needs to be a Rambler; if you want something light to carry water in, the Yonder does that better and costs less.
