Hikerdelic FAQs
It is a portmanteau of hiking and psychedelic. Co-founder Mark Smith used it in a tweet in 2012 and found nobody had said it before, and it became the umbrella term for anything outdoorsy and slightly mad. The brand describes itself as where the peak meets the precinct.
Mark Smith and Neil Summers of Proper Magazine, the Manchester men's lifestyle title that started as a fanzine. After fifteen years writing about clothing brands they started their own. The logo and much of the artwork come from Manchester illustrator Daren Newman.
A recreation of the yellow and black jacket Tim Burgess wore in The Charlatans' 1997 "How High" video — the thing he says he gets asked about more than anything else about the band. He never found out what the original was, so twenty-five years later he asked Hikerdelic to make one. It launched on the single's 25th anniversary in June 2022, carrying the Core Logo alongside "How High" and the number 25. A touring bag followed in 2024.
Both, deliberately. The founders grew up in Stockport between the Peak District and the precincts, and the brand comes from watching technical outerwear get worn in both places. The shells and quilted jackets are built to work outdoors; the graphics come from acid house. The Conway Smock is the piece that sits most clearly in the middle.
Some of the range is carried in our Manchester and Sheffield shops, though what is in store varies from what is online and changes through the season. Hikerdelic is a Manchester brand, so it feels right that you can try it on here.
