About Carhartt WIP Beanies, Caps & Hats

The beanie

The fold-over ribbed watch cap with the logo tab on the turn-up is the most recognisable thing Carhartt WIP makes. It comes in a run of named versions that changes each season — Ashley is the current one, and Helix, Gabe, Anglistic and Stratus have all appeared in recent years, differing in knit density and how deep the cap sits. Acrylic rib, one size, elasticated, worn folded once or twice depending on how much of the ear you want covered. Colours here run Palisander, Fleur De Sel, Cinnerus, Cozy Purple and Black, plus the 9 Gauge Black. The 9 Gauge is knitted finer, so it sits closer to the head and reads less bulky. The Short Watch Hat is the shallower cut, for anyone who finds the standard fold sits too low.

Which cap is which

The differences between the caps are mostly panel count, brim and fabric. The Icon Cap is the plain six-panel — unstructured, curved brim, logo tab above it — in Dusky Beige, Peanut and Air Force Blue. The Madison Logo Cap is its close relative with a leather strap, and the Logo Cap and Dune take the same shape into cotton and canvas. The Postal Cap is the sturdier build. The Selby is stone-washed canvas and the Notus comes in Arvin stripe, both softer and more worn-in from the start. Two break the pattern: the Preston is a flat-brim five-panel with the wordmark across the front, and the Canvas Script does the same on a curved brim.

Bucket hats and the Webster

The Orla is packable nylon with a soft brim that crushes into a bag and recovers. The Wynton is corduroy in stone-washed Jura, with more structure and a brim that holds its shape. The Webster is the outlier — a flat cap rather than a baseball cap, in stone-washed black, and the piece here that looks least like the rest of the range. It has been the most searched-for item in this collection since it landed.

Carhartt WIP Headwear FAQs

The fold-over ribbed watch cap with the square logo tab on the turn-up. Carhartt WIP names its beanies by model and the line-up changes each season — Ashley is the current version, and Helix, Gabe and Anglistic have all been recent variations on the same shape in different knits and depths.
The gauge is the knit density. The standard Ashley is a chunkier rib; the 9 Gauge is finer, so it sits closer to the head and looks less bulky when folded. Both are one size and both carry the logo tab.
Yes. The beanies are elasticated ribbed knit and stretch to fit. The caps use an adjustable strap at the back — leather on the Madison Logo, webbing or fabric on the others.
The Icon is an unstructured six-panel with a curved brim and the logo tab above it — the plainest cap in the range. The Preston is a five-panel with a flat brim and the wordmark across the front, so it reads bolder from a distance.
A flat cap rather than a baseball cap, in stone-washed black cotton. It's the one shape in the range that borrows from traditional British headwear instead of workwear or sportswear.
Hand wash cool with a mild detergent, reshape while damp and dry flat. Acrylic knits stretch if hung wet and lose their recovery in a hot machine wash, so the ribbing stops gripping.
Yes. We stock Carhartt WIP headwear at both Yards Store shops — 13 Old Bank Street in Manchester and 86 Pinstone Street in Sheffield. Colours differ between the two, so call ahead if you want a particular one.
