Black Hole

The Black Hole is the bag most people mean when they say Patagonia. It's built from ripstop polyester with a laminate coating and welded seams, so rain runs off it and the fabric holds its shape whether the bag is full or empty. Duffels come in 40, 55, 70 and 100 litres, with wheeled versions of the larger sizes for anyone who would rather not carry them. Alongside those sit the 25 and 32 litre packs, a 25 litre tote, the gear tote, the waist pack, the Mini MLC and Micro MLC, and packing cubes in 3, 6 and 14 litres sized to fit inside the duffels.

Terravia, Refugio and Atom

Terravia is the lighter, more technical range — packs at 14, 22, 28 and 36 litres, a 5 litre hip pack and a mini version, sacoches and a tote pack. It's cut closer to the body than the Black Hole and built for moving rather than hauling. Refugio daypacks come at 26, 30 and 32 litres, the everyday commuting option. The Atom Daypack is 24 litres, and the Atom Sling is the smallest thing here at 8 litres, worn across the chest for a phone, wallet and not much else.

Which size

For daily carry with a laptop, a Refugio at 26 or 30 litres, or the Terravia 22. For a weekend, a Black Hole 40 litre duffel, which also works as cabin baggage on most airlines. A week away takes the 55, and the 70 and 100 litre versions are for longer trips or bulky kit — worth taking wheeled at those sizes. Hip packs and the Atom Sling are for going out with your hands free rather than carrying anything substantial.
