The Övik flat cap is the odd one and the popular one. A flat cap is a British shape — Yorkshire, tweed, a certain sort of pub — and Fjällräven makes it in Swedish wool with an arctic fox on the side, which on paper is a mismatch and in practice is the best-selling accessory the brand produces here. The Hatfield does a different job: a wide brim in canvas, made to keep rain off your neck rather than to look good doing it, and it packs flat in a way a structured hat doesn't. Långtradarkeps — Swedish for lorry driver's cap — is the trucker, mesh at the back and a foam front, and it's been in the range far longer than the current fashion for them. For cold, the beanies run from a thin ribbed knit that fits under a hood to heavier wool that doesn't, and the difference matters more than the colour does.

Choosing a pack

The rucksacks divide by how long you'll be wearing them rather than by volume alone. High Coast and Vardag are the town packs: simple, light, no hip belt, because a belt on a commute is something to unclip rather than something that helps. Abisko is where the engineering starts — once a pack has real weight in it, the belt has to move that load onto your hips, and the back system has to match your torso rather than the average of everyone's. That's the difference between a pack that's comfortable for six hours and one that isn't. Trek, Kajka and Bergtagen go further, with frames that hold the load high and close to the spine, which is what stops a heavy pack pulling you backwards on a climb.

Belts, leather and Greenland Wax

The belts and wallets are made on the same principle as everything else: plain, replaceable, built to outlast their contents. G-1000 canvas with a brass buckle rather than a plated one, leather that darkens instead of cracking. Greenland Wax deserves explaining, because it's the reason G-1000 exists in the form it does. Fjällräven could sell you a waterproof fabric. Instead it sells one you proof yourself — a block of paraffin and beeswax you rub in and melt with a hairdryer, heavy on the shoulders and knees where weather hits, light everywhere else so the fabric still breathes. It wears off, you do it again, and the garment lasts decades rather than seasons. Wool socks, neck gaiters, pack rain covers and the Abisko tents fill out the rest of the collection.

Reproofing G-1000 fabric. It's a block of paraffin and beeswax that you rub into the material and melt in with a hairdryer or a warm iron. The more you apply, the more water resistance you get — and it wears off with use, so you reapply as needed.
For commuting and everyday use, a High Coast Foldsack, Vardag or Skule at 16 to 26 litres. For day walks, the Abisko Hike or Abisko Hike Lite. For overnight and multi-day trekking, the Abisko Friluft or Trek from 35 to 65 litres, which have proper hip belts. Kajka and Bergtagen are the expedition packs.
Most caps use an adjustable strap or snap at the back, and the beanies are knitted to stretch. The Övik flat cap and some of the wool hats come in fixed sizes — stated on the product page where that applies.
