About Db Journey Bags & Backpacks

From one ski bag to a luggage range

Jon Olsson and Truls Brataas met on a surf trip to Hoddevik in Norway in 2009. Olsson was a competitive freeskier, Brataas an engineering student, and both had spent years dragging skis and boards through airports in bags that were not up to the job. Brataas built the first prototype in his student accommodation: a ski bag that adjusted for length and collapsed down when empty. The brand launched commercially in 2012 under the name Douchebags, later shortened to Db, and is still based in Oslo. What began as kit for action sports has become a full range of backpacks, luggage and everyday carry.

The four ranges in this collection

Hugger backpacks are the everyday option — a structured shape with a clamshell opening, laptop storage and proportions that work as cabin baggage. Ramverk is the luggage line, covering carry-on and check-in cases, with the Pro and Alu versions sitting above the standard model. Roamer sling bags are the smallest thing here at six litres, sized for a phone, wallet and keys. Weigh Lighter is the performance end: a 25L backpack, a 32L helmet bag and a 70L split duffel, all built light with gear organisation in mind. The Utility Tote sits outside those four as a plain 32L carry.

Choosing by trip length

For a commute or a day out, a Roamer sling or the Utility Tote is enough. For daily carry plus the occasional overnight, a Hugger backpack covers both. For a few days away, a Ramverk carry-on keeps everything in the cabin. For a week, ski kit or anything bulky, the Ramverk check-in or the Weigh Lighter split duffel is the one to take.

The rest of the range is in bags, with reductions in bags and luggage sale, and comparable carry from Elliker.

DB FAQs

Db Journey are a Norwegian travel gear brand based in Oslo, founded in 2009 by freeskier Jon Olsson and engineer Truls Brataas. Their first product was a collapsible ski bag. The brand launched commercially in 2012 as Douchebags and later shortened the name to Db.
Hugger backpacks, Ramverk carry-on and check-in luggage, Roamer sling bags, the Utility Tote, and the Weigh Lighter backpack, helmet bag and split duffel. It covers everyday carry, commuting, cabin baggage and longer trips.
A Hugger backpack. It has a structured shape, laptop storage and a clamshell opening that makes packing and unpacking straightforward, and the proportions work for commuting as well as an overnight stay.
A backpack is the all-rounder for daily carry and short trips. A sling bag is smaller and sits across the body, so it suits the essentials you want to hand. A duffel holds considerably more, which makes it the choice for longer trips, sports kit or bulkier loads.
The Ramverk carry-on cases are designed as cabin baggage and the check-in cases for the hold. Airline cabin allowances vary, so check the case dimensions on the product page against your airline before flying.
Yes. We stock Db Journey at both Yards Store shops — 13 Old Bank Street in Manchester and 86 Pinstone Street in Sheffield. Stock varies between the two, so call ahead if you are travelling for a particular model or colour.
