About Carhartt WIP Mens T-Shirts

The plain ones

Three families cover most of what people buy. The Pocket Tee is the plainest — a chest pocket with the square logo tab stitched to it, in white, black, dark navy, amarone, iroko, lumber and gentle orange. The Chase Tee replaces the pocket with the Carhartt script embroidered in gold thread, in short and long sleeve, and comes in the widest colour run here. The Base Tee is the simplest of all, sold as a plain two-tone with no branding beyond the label. All three are heavier cotton than a standard jersey, which is why they hold their shape through repeated washing.

The graphics

Carhartt WIP prints a new set of graphic tees each season and rarely repeats them. Currently that covers Spirals, Wiptopia, Crab Paint, Piggybank, Furoshiki, Cabinetry, Grape Picker, Tipsy Type, Beaker, Okniceok, Precision Work, Rising Helix and No Play, alongside the American Script and Script embroidery tees that carry the wordmark rather than an image. Prints are on the same cotton bodies as the plain tees, so the fit doesn't change between them.

Garment dyeing and waffle knits

Some tees carry a finish rather than a print. Garment dyed means the tee was made up first and dyed afterwards, which gives a softer, slightly uneven colour that settles further with washing — the Nelson comes this way. Heavy stone wash does something similar through longer treatment, as on the Forma. The Nelson Waffle uses a textured knit instead of flat jersey, which reads heavier and works better as a standalone layer in cooler weather.

Carhartt WIP T-Shirts FAQs

The Pocket Tee has a chest pocket with the square logo tab stitched onto it. The Chase Tee has no pocket — the Carhartt script is embroidered in gold thread on the chest instead. Both use the same cotton body and the same fit.
Regular and slightly boxy, cut with a bit of room through the body and shoulder rather than close. The cotton is heavier than a standard jersey, so they hang rather than cling. If you want a closer fit, taking your usual size rather than sizing up is normally enough.
The tee was knitted and made up first, then dyed as a finished piece rather than the yarn being dyed beforehand. It gives a softer, slightly uneven colour that continues to settle with washing, and no two pieces come out identical.
Rarely. The prints change with each collection and most are not repeated, so a graphic tee is generally available for one season only. The plain Pocket, Chase and Base tees continue year-round.
Turn it inside out, wash cool at 30°C and keep it out of the tumble dryer, which is what cracks a print over time. Don't iron directly over the artwork. A cool wash also keeps garment-dyed colours from fading faster than they should.
Yes. We stock Carhartt WIP at both Yards Store shops — 13 Old Bank Street in Manchester and 86 Pinstone Street in Sheffield. Prints and colours differ between the two, so call ahead if you want a particular tee.
