About Aries clothing

Sofia Prantera and Fergus Purcell met at Slam City Skates in Shoreditch in the nineties. She went on to run Silas, one of the defining British streetwear labels of that decade; he drew the triangle logo for Palace. They started Aries in 2009, and the idea behind it was a deliberate contradiction — Prantera describes it as the temple and the rat, classical architecture set against decay. That is why the range runs from a screen-printed cotton tee to a studded leather bag without either feeling out of place.

Purcell's graphics carry it. The Temple logo is a Roman colonnade drawn as though photocopied too many times, which is the whole idea in one image. Much of the range is made in Italy.

Aries Temple tees, hoodies and sweatshirts

The Temple pieces are the core of what is here — Ancient Temple and Indigo Temple tees, the Premium Aged Temple hoodie and sweatshort, the Faded Temple bomber. The finishes are doing as much work as the graphics: aged, sunbleached, worn flock and rag dye all describe treatments applied after the garment is made, so no two pieces fade in quite the same way and they arrive looking used rather than new.

The Column pieces are the plainer alternative — hoodie, scarf and socks carrying the columns that frame the logo rather than the full Temple graphic.

Aries caps, leather and accessories

Caps are a substantial part of the range and the pieces most people buy first: the Aged Column, the Hardcore Patch, the Distressed Diamante and the Cola trucker. At the other end sit the leather goods — the Bobby wallet and bag, the Mazzo belt and the card holders, in studded pearl and croc-embossed black. These are the most expensive things Aries makes and the clearest expression of the luxury half of the brand.

Aries FAQs

Sofia Prantera and Fergus Purcell, who founded the label in London in 2009. Prantera previously ran the nineties streetwear brand Silas; Purcell designed the triangle logo for Palace Skateboards. The two met working at Slam City Skates.
It is a classical colonnade rendered as though repeatedly photocopied. Prantera has described the brand's identity as the temple and the rat — classical order set against decay — and the logo is that idea in one image. The columns that frame it appear on their own across the Column pieces.
Aries' best-known slogan, used across tees and sweatshirts since the brand's early years. It has become as recognisable as the Temple logo and is one of the two graphics most people associate with the label.
Aries is designed in London and much of the range is manufactured in Italy, which is where the heavier pieces and the leather goods come from. Check the individual product page for where a specific item is made.
