Carhartt first came to light in 1889 when a Mr Hamilton Carhart, started to produce work wear clothing for the industries in and around Michigan and eventually further afield.  Hamilton was a businessman and was keen to make a product that stood out from the rest. Carhartt went on to develop a heavy duty duck canvas which is in their now famous Hamilton brown colour way. The aim of Carhartt’s game has always been not to produce the cheapest, but to produce the best work wear that would outlast all the others. Carhartt’s work wear heritage has evolved into producing tees, jackets and accessories to ensure fashionability is prominent alongside practicality, not an easy task to master but has done with create success. Since the 1980s it’s been as popular with hip hop stars as it is has with oil rig workers and continues to be the street-wear brand of choice for a variety of different scenes and subcultures.
